| English Channel | 1 Day |
|
I crossed the famed English Channel twice during my trip. Going into France I enjoyed the engineering marvel, the Chunnel in the Eurostar train. It was an exciting experience -- I could feel the pressure difference as I descended into the tunnel. Of course, once I was in the tunnel, it was just 20 minutes of blackness out the window. The return trip above the water offered a little more interesting scenery. Calais itself was better in the tunnel -- it's only purpose is to transport people and stuff across the Channel. As such, it lacks the natural beauty that Dover and its dramatic White Cliffs offered. Even though it was a hazy morning when I made the 50 minute crossing, the White Cliffs still stood out from miles away. | |
